Obviously we might be biased, but we think The Academy is a great team to be part of. With over five years of experience based on a proven successful business model, our Learning Centres are thriving and stimulating places in which to teach. With the latest technology at your disposal and a wealth of resources, support and opportunities for professional development, you’re looking at an exciting next step in your teaching career.
Below is the framework all tutors go through
This initial phone discussion enables our tutor support team to establish what qualifications the tutor holds and what specific tuition experience they have. The Academy requires all tutors to hold a degree classed at 2.1 or higher and/or have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). All teachers must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the curriculum that is further assessed during a formal interview. Importantly at the interview stage we ensure that our teachers have a real passion for helping students achieve their potential through class simulations and scenario based role plays. All teachers successful at this stage are sent registration forms.
Once the registration forms have been received, the teachers’ personal details are double checked. The careers team also receives copies of the teachers’ passport, degree certificates, CV and current Enhanced CRB. If they do not hold an Enhanced CRB an application is made. If all the documents inspected meet our requirements the tutors’ work referee and character referee are contacted.
The careers team assesses two references for every tutor; one work reference and one character reference. Work referees can provide us with a valuable insight into how the teachers work with children in a teaching environment, while character references help us further determine how suitable each teacher may be.
If the references meet our standards the teachers’ profile is made available to the private client department to match up with clients. All teachers teaching at our schools undergo between 6-8 hours of further theoretical training with an experienced tutor to ensure all teaching methods follow The Academy standard. Here, they are also given guidance on our theme-based learning approach, examination calendars and quality check monitoring. Teachers are then posted in a school and partnered with a mentor for 6 teaching weeks or nine x three hour teaching sessions. Mentors are trained, experienced tutors with a proven track record.
Trainee teachers are expected to plan their class fully each week, execute a fun, academically relevant teaching session and set homework as required. They are assessed each week by the mentor and given objectives and aims to focus on each week. At the end of their training cycle, all teachers are examined and based on their performance in both a practical and written examination either asked to continue training with a mentor for a further four weeks or signed off to take on a class permanently.
At The Academy our screening process is continuous. Once tutors have registered or trained with us, we monitor progress of all on-going tuition to make sure it is a success. We work closely with our parents and students to ensure the teaching is of an exemplary standard every week and also ask parents for their feedback. In this way we ascertain that all of our teachers perform to the high standards we expect from them.
