At the end of each academic year school children undergo a number of assessments to determine their academic achievement levels. This is no different at Key Stage One. While teachers in our learning centres only focus on the core subjects, our one-to-one tuition and home support can provide a learning boost in all statutory subjects:
Art and Design | Design and Technology | English | Geography | History | ICT | Languages | Maths | Music | PE | Religious Education | Science
All primary teachers at The Academy must have a recognised teaching qualification or a degree in their taught subject with a score of 2.1 or higher. All of our tutors will have had extensive experience of teaching at Key Stage One and because many of them are qualified primary teachers, they have thorough core subject knowledge of English and Maths. Importantly, all teachers always have up-to-date knowledge of the curriculum, so you can be sure that your child will receive only the best support.
At The Academy, students are tested and examined in several ways throughout the year. While regular homework ensures students get the practise they need to do well and fully understand class content, our weekly tests (AQT’s) at the start of each lesson provide teachers with a fast and effective way of determining how much students have understood from the previous week. The tests also get students in the habit of reading class notes and preparing for the week ahead.
Based on the results of the AQT, teachers can tailor their teaching to support students where required. Our end of theme examination every 6-8 weeks is a great way for students to experience a real exam setting. Students are examined on a teaching theme and are expected to prepare adequately for this. Parents will receive an end of theme report with an average AQT score, as well the final examination score for all subjects they have been enrolled for. Teachers will produce a comprehensive report that will give parents a clear and thorough insight into their child’s progress and performance.

The combination of subjects that students choose to study at A Level play an important role in deciding subject choices at university. With entrance requirements for all given subject areas varying from university to university, it is important that students choose which A Levels to study wisely.
Teachers at The Academy offer tailored KS5 tuition and our A Level teachers offer support and guidance for every subject available at this level. We offer a full range of A Levels from the traditional subjects continued from Key Stage 4, to the ‘applied A levels’ such as Business or Tourism.
The A levels are broken down into two separate examinations:
1. End of year 12: AS Levels
2. End of year 13: A2 Levels

The Academy’s cohort of primary school tutors can provide support and tuition in preparation for SATS. Standard Assessment Tasks (SATS) help teachers to identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses in the core subjects. They also help local authorities and the DCSF to identify schools that are successful and those that need extra support.
Preparing for SATS can cause a lot of unnecessary stress for children. Our one-to-one tuition or home support service can be extremely valuable to students who require guidance, confidence and exam practise in order to achieve the best results. We provide tuition in the following SATS areas:
KS1 SATS: Speaking and Listening | Reading | Writing | Maths | Science
KS2 SATS: English | Maths

Many preparatory schools now require children as young as four to sit a written exam prior to the desired year of entry. Whilst there is less competition for these examinations over the 11+, 13+ and 16+ exams, students can still feel a lot of pressure.
Teachers at The Academy are able to gear tuition to young students of this age in a supportive way that will build confidence and ensure that relevant guidance is provided specifically for exams of this nature in a manageable and engaging manner.
We believe that the 4+ and 7/8+ exams are only successful if our teachers have the relevant qualifications and experience. That’s why all the teachers at The Academy are required to hold a degree in the subject they tutor at a 2.1 or above, or a teaching qualification recognised by the General Teaching Council.
All our 4+ and 7/8+ are required to have relevant teaching experience. Many of our tutors are qualified teachers; others highly experienced with top class degrees. Importantly, all teachers always have up-to-date knowledge of the curriculum, so you can be sure your child will receive the very best support.

Teachers at The Academy are able to provide support to all pupils preparing to take the 11+ Grammar School entrance exam.
There are approximately just 164 grammar schools in operation in England and because they are state funded, they are particularly selective when it comes to selection students. The selection process is based on the 11+ entry exam. Although these exams can differ across the country, they share some or all of the following factors:
English | Maths | Verbal Reasoning | Non-Verbal Reasoning.
Our one-to-one tuition or home support service can be extremely valuable to students who require guidance, confidence and exam practice in order to achieve the best results to enter the competitive private sector. Our teachers are able to provide support in all subject areas relevant at this level.
