We believe that a firm grounding in these subjects offers our students further confidence, develops their fluency and enhances their core literacy skills that will serve them well throughout their life.

Students who attend English lessons at The Academy will be immersed in a range of varied and rich prose, poetry and literature that will enhance their skills and understanding. They will be taught to think critically, to carefully analyse for meaning and inference, and to comment articulately on a range of literary devices.

Lessons will focus on a range of writing approaches, will ensure development of a well-rounded vocabulary and the ability to read confidently and write fluently. Through this, pupils will approach their examination writing tasks such as SATS and GCSEs with a firm grasp of their own talents and abilities that will ensure they achieve the best result they can.

All of the knowledge and skills that our students develop in The Academy’s English classes will ensure that they will also have an increase in confidence across a broader range of subjects that are text heavy, such as Geography or History.

MATHS

Our tutors are not only highly qualified and knowledgeable in Maths, but they fully understand the importance of applied skills as the fundamental basis of all maths activities. They help students hone, practice and develop the foundation skills of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing to increase confidence and adaptability for further tasks.

Your child will move from this basic understanding that is so fundamentally important, to begin to tackle more advanced mathematical tasks such as statistics, algebra, probability and geometry with true depth of ability and confidence.

We work on a broad range of tasks to develop our students’ skills so that they can not only apply maths to real-life, but that unfamiliar maths tasks can become applicable and useful to them. They will also be able to make connections between topics and relate them to each other more fluently.
Students will also have a grounding and regular practice of examination practices so that they meet their exams with true determination and a solid understanding of their subject.

Pupils of The Academy are encouraged and nurtured in all three of the scientific disciplines. Our tutors consistently encourage them to develop the relevant and useful skills that will enable them to flourish as young scientists.

There are many budding doctors, scientists and engineers attending our lessons, and we ensure that they get an excellent grounding in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. They learn about the wonders of the earth, the excitement of chemical reactions and about great feats of engineering. We not only allow the wonders of Science to be explored by our students but our informative lessons allow them to develop their skills in examination settings.  All subjects taught will be broken down into themes and aims that cover requirements laid out in the national curriculum. Parents are free to select any level of class for their child. This means students who have fallen behind can cement ideas and concepts from the previous year, whilst those wanting to work ahead of class can learn material at least 1 year in advance.
