Ms. Tamimi

Ms. Tamimi is a passionate scientist currently studying for an MRes at University College London in the field of brain development.

She earned a BSc in Biomedical Science from the University of Sheffield in 2016. Throughout her education she has taken a concerted interest in educating others, accumulating hundreds of hours tuition and teaching experience both in the UK and abroad. Ms. Tamimi also organised career development sessions for high school students in Tanzania and Kenya. Her aim is to create an environment where all students are thoroughly engaged in class. She wishes to let the curiosity of young people shine like a light, illuminating the science hidden in everyday life. For Ms. Tamimi, there is no such thing as a hard or boring topic – only those areas that need explaining carefully, and with enthusiasm! Beyond the classroom and laboratory, Ms. Tamimi can usually be found either playing football, lost in a novel, or contemplating the easiest recipe that can produce edible food. Her sincere hope is to act as a useful member of society while also being able to fuel her natural curiosity.

Ms. Imran

Ms. Imran comes from a highly diverse background and speaks three languages (English, Mandarin and Malay) — though her Mandarin may need a little fine-tuning!

Born and bred in Malaysia, she switched her tropical haven for the gloom of Manchester to pursue an undergraduate degree in Law and Criminology. Despite growing to love (or at least tolerate) the glorious Northern weather, she moved down south to London where she spent a year training as a barrister at the University of Law.

Having realised that the world of legal practice was far too cutthroat for her tastes, she is now currently pursuing a Masters in Medical Law at Queen Mary University of London and aspires to become an academic in that field. Ms. Imran’s first teaching experience was certainly unique: she taught prisoners debating skills as part of an outreach programme!

When she’s not forced to bury her nose in legal journals and cases, Ms. Imran’s literary tastes gravitate towards works of fiction centred on feminism and South Asian History (though she is always up for an intellectual discussion on Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings). Ms. Imran’s musical preferences range from the likes of Bring Me The Horizon to Alt-J and Kendrick Lamar. Her taste buds are all but immune to spicy food, a testament to living in Malaysia for 19 years.

Mr. Jupolli

Mr. Jupolli is originally from Kosova but moved to England when he was just a few months old.

After several moves, he eventually found himself in North London, where he’s now lived for fifteen years. Mr. Jupolli studies Statistics, Economics and Finance at University College London. Though a relatively new addition to the Academy’s teaching staff, he has already taken strides to impart his knowledge of complex topics like vector theory, surds and relative atomic mass.

Self-identifying as a ‘cool kid’, Mr. Jupolli is often to be found playing chess, revising economic principles, or perhaps having a cheeky game of Call of Duty! His flair for teaching manifested early, when he organized his own science club for primary school children who took part in activities as varied as making slime and cooking up sweets. (He insists that this club was not just designed to indulge his sweet tooth!) Mr Jupolli will become very flustered if he is asked about spelling or the finer points of English grammar, so avoid these topics at all costs. On the other hand, a good joke or riddle will always fall on welcome ears.

Dr.Baabde

Dr. Baabe is a compassionate Doctor who recently moved to the London. She loves everything human and has an even fonder love for good food, animals and nature.

Dr. Baabde describes herself as a salad, referring to her collection of ethnic backgrounds. While she is predominantly Arab by blood, she was born and raised in in the sunny shores of Tanzania; a beautiful country in East Africa. She speaks Kiswahili and English fluently and understands both Arabic and Hindi. Dr Baabde, has always had a passion to help people through healing and teaching and hopes to in-still altruistic values in her students and help them grow both academically and mentally.

MS. zeka

Ms. Zeka is an author, poet and student of English Literature at the University of Oxford and speaks 4 languages!

When Ms. Zeka is not busy running a student-led educational podcast, writing articles and working with mentoring charities across the country, she loves to delve into the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Virginia Woolf and T.S. Eliot. She loves to see how such authors challenge literary conventions and dare to be different.

Mr. BROWN

Mr. Brown joined The Academy in September 2019 after moving to London from St. Helier, Jersey to start study for a BSc in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at University College London.

Having been born and raised in Jersey and spending sixth form at a boarding school in rural Scotland, he is still getting used to all aspects of London life–especially the lack of beaches! As a maths teacher, he is passionate about the doors that a quality maths education can open and its relevance for the real world. Outside of the classroom, he can be observed fine-tuning his fantasy football team (see, Maths does have relevance in the real world!), cooking a dish far too elaborate for the kitchen of a university hall, and reading about the latest insights in politics.

Mr. goodhew

Mr Goodhew plans to be a teacher full time, so while he’s not mastering his lesson technique, Mr Goodhew can be found running! His has seen him take on the challenges of running the Loch Ness and Kielder reservoir marathons over the past few years!  Impressive

Ms.larard

Ms. Narang

Ms. Narang joined the Academy in 2018. Despite being born in New Delhi, her motherland was not the place where her childhood memories took form.

Instead of growing up eating jalebis and golgappas, she grew up drinking Turkish tea, savouring Romanian fornetti and eating Japanese noodles. After completing her undergraduate course in English Literature from India, she felt that pursuing her higher studies in England would further provide the academic rigour and intellectual environment that she strongly desired.

Her admission to King’s College London to study a Masters in Modern Literature and Culture makes her feel very blessed. Apart from reading postcolonial texts and accounts of diasporic writers, she has a strong passion for all things Francais. She aspires to work in the field of translation and lives each day dancing to the rhythm of Edith Piaf’s La Vie En Rose.

Mr. Brennan

Originally born in Bolton, Lancashire, he moved to North London to study International History (BA) at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Mr. Brennan joined the Academy in 2016. Originally born in Bolton, Lancashire, he moved to North London to study International History (BA) at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Since joining the Academy, he has taught English classes on topics as diverse as Donald Trump and ‘fake news’, sparse landscapes and sparse language in The Road, and the use of poetic imagery in 21st century rap music. Outside of work, Mr. Brennan can usually be found listening to the music of Frank Ocean, Bon Iver and Sam Cooke. He has a fond taste for almost all the savoury products offered at Greggs Bakery, evidence of which is provided by the flakes of pastry found about his person. He particularly dislikes snapback hats, anyone who doesn’t indicate while driving, and avocados (especially on toast).

Through her studies, she has researched and written about new forms of digital storytelling, building on her love for classical literature, poetry and theatre. In fact, she originally began working with young people as part of a successful children’s theatre troupe. Now with over four years experience in one-to-one tutoring, Ms. Carlin is passionate about giving students the tools and the confidence to succeed in English. Building good essay technique is at the heart of each of her lessons. As well as achieving academic goals, Ms. Carlin likes to focus on building transferrable skills and encouraging critical thinking, which will help students both at school and beyond. Her aspiration is to pursue an academic career in the Study of Religions, while continuing to teach and mentor. Since joining the Academy, Mr Ganesh has taught GCSE Maths and Physics, modelling his teaching style on his own teachers and tutors. This involves active discussions where he often asks the students to teach him how to do particular questions once he has taught the topic. In Physics he has also enjoyed discussions which go beyond the GCSE syllabus most notably the logistics behind gamma experiment which created the Hulk! Outside the classroom and the lecture theatre, Mr Ganesh can be found playing football, lost in a Stephen King novel or filming a podcast with his friends. His musical taste ranges from the likes of Avicii to AJ Tracey.

Her family roots trace back to southeastern Europe, but she was born and raised in London. Her favourite pastime is listening to music whenever she isn’t buried under the weight of her anatomy textbooks! She refuses to be defined by her music taste, with Spotify playlists ranging from rock to dancehall and reggae. She also enjoys sketching whatever comes to mind and spending time outdoors in nature, which is the most relaxing thing to her. Ms. Kolundzic strives to help her students flourish in an academic setting and aims to inspire them to look to the stars for their dreams.
