ABOUT THE ACADEMY
trusted since 2007
The Academy Learning Centre is a well established and professional education centre which offers extra tuition for children aged 8-18. Our exceptional teaching standards has allowed parents and schools to trust us in enhancing the skills and confidence of students through our weekly online classes.
Our small group, interactive classes focus primarily on the core subjects: Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to KS4, but we also offer additional subjects including foreign languages as part of our 1-1 tutoring service.
How it works
Our innovative Online Lesson Programme, offers a wide subject variety across KS2 to KS4. Pupils can study: Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
- Students will join 1 weekly class with us per subject.
- Pupils will engage in a live video and audio compatible lesson with their tutor, who will cover theory and learning through our virtual whiteboard.
- Material will be taught in line with syllabus objectives.
- All material will be taught step by step, with supporting notes in class and practice questions.
- Students will be able to ask question every step of the way.
- Each lesson will cover a clear set of aims and students will always be given some homework to practice.
- All lessons are supported with a comprehensive set of board notes at the end of each lesson.
WHY CHOOSE THE ACADEMY?
We believe in individualized teaching and support that follows the national curriculum to ensure each child is working at their highest level. We keep group numbers small, which allows teachers to spend crucial one-on-one time with every student and results in more positive outcomes for all.
Our classes are usually no more than 10 students per teacher, but more often than not, we have an average of just 4-5 students per teacher.
At the end of each topic students take an exam, which is specifically designed to reflect and recreate the national examinations (SATs, GCSEs and A-Levels.) We know that giving students a realistic experience of sitting exams will improve their outcomes and confidence for the real thing. Our regular exam practice prepares students by engaging in effective revision techniques as well as teaching them key skills to use during an exam.
Our curriculum is designed to give our students the skills and knowledge they need for success in national exams up to GCSE and beyond. We teach in topic-based blocks, each lasting between 8 and 15 weeks. Our teaching methodology allows children to work towards clearly set out targets – again, making it easy to track progress and provide effective support.
Our teachers are recruited from a background of academic specialisms in Maths, English and Science. They are knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects, and really able to support and inspire students. Our teachers come from some of the top academic institutions, many of whom are either experienced private tutors, or PGCE/ QTS qualified.
Our lessons are based on genuine, productive interactions between students and teachers. We don’t depend on worksheets, computers or calculators (where possible!) We respond immediately and dynamically to the different needs of each group or individual, and we challenge students to see what they can achieve with just pen, paper and their own amazing brains.

Mr. P. Jupolli
Mr. Jupolli is originally from Kosova but moved to England when he was just a few months old.

After several moves, he eventually found himself in North London, where he’s now lived for fifteen years. Mr. Jupolli studies Statistics, Economics and Finance at University College London. Though a relatively new addition to the Academy’s teaching staff, he has already taken strides to impart his knowledge of complex topics like vector theory, surds and relative atomic mass.
Self-identifying as a ‘cool kid’, Mr. Jupolli is often to be found playing chess, revising economic principles, or perhaps having a cheeky game of Call of Duty! His flair for teaching manifested early, when he organized his own science club for primary school children who took part in activities as varied as making slime and cooking up sweets. (He insists that this club was not just designed to indulge his sweet tooth!) Mr Jupolli will become very flustered if he is asked about spelling or the finer points of English grammar, so avoid these topics at all costs. On the other hand, a good joke or riddle will always fall on welcome ears.
Ms imran
Ms. Imran comes from a highly diverse background and speaks three languages (English, Mandarin and Malay) — though her Mandarin may need a little fine-tuning!

Born and bred in Malaysia, she switched her tropical haven for the gloom of Manchester to pursue an undergraduate degree in Law and Criminology. Despite growing to love (or at least tolerate) the glorious Northern weather, she moved down south to London where she spent a year training as a barrister at the University of Law.
Having realised that the world of legal practice was far too cutthroat for her tastes, she is now currently pursuing a Masters in Medical Law at Queen Mary University of London and aspires to become an academic in that field. Ms. Imran’s first teaching experience was certainly unique: she taught prisoners debating skills as part of an outreach programme!
When she’s not forced to bury her nose in legal journals and cases, Ms. Imran’s literary tastes gravitate towards works of fiction centred on feminism and South Asian History (though she is always up for an intellectual discussion on Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings). Ms. Imran’s musical preferences range from the likes of Bring Me The Horizon to Alt-J and Kendrick Lamar. Her taste buds are all but immune to spicy food, a testament to living in Malaysia for 19 years.
OUR ORIGINS
Little did founder Paras Vora know that when he agreed to spend three months working with street children in South India, that it would spark a passion for education that would eventually become The Academy. The opportunity arrived during his first year studying biology at University College London in 2006, and although reluctant to go initially, he soon found himself travelling around Bangalore, devising creative ways to teach Maths and English to children from extremely underprivileged backgrounds. This experience would profoundly change Paras’s outlook on life as well as his career path.
After returning to the UK, Paras began working in a London-based think tank, who had recently developed a project to work with children from minority communities, in an effort to boost literacy and numeracy skills. This experience only further cemented his determination to nurture and educate young people. Throughout this time, Paras developed an awareness and understanding of how passionate and capable teachers can truly captivate, engage and nurture students in their class. He also learned the importance of managing positive behaviour and how to avoid demotivating or demoralising children with challenging behaviours.

Paras began to quickly develop a well-respected reputation in the areas he taught. More parents began to send their children to classes, and the business grew organically through pupils sharing their positive learning experiences with“Mr Vora”. The press showed an interest in the burgeoning business, with coverage from The Sun Newspaper. Carol Vorderman visited two centres managed by Paras, in both Wapping and Kings Cross.
Whilst working at the think tank, Paras began to develop his own ideas and approaches to educational and tutoring services. He soon became determined to begin running his very own centre, with his own hand picked staff, trained in the passionate and knowledgeable style of teaching that he found his students positively responded to.
The summer of 2007 saw the opening of the first branch in Kings Cross. Named Vuition Supplementary School (VSS), it recognised the local demand for parents looking for good teachers who could demonstrate weekly improvement and could provide a disciplined and target driven environment. Within 3 months, two more after school branches were opened. Soon, the company catered for over 100 students per week and employed 5 new part time teachers. Not bad for an entrepreneur who began with designing his own logo and printing flyers at home!
In 2012, VSS rebranded to The Academy Learning Centre and have since built up a unique teaching structure, developed specialised workbooks and teaching materials as well as employing and training the most inspirational tutors who share Mr Vora’s passion for teaching and energy to ignite every lesson they teach. Parents and students continue to trust The Academy to support, educate and inspire them every day.
